Noise and vibration reduction of industry systems has been the focus of research, not only for its omnipresence, but also its impact to engineering. The mechanical characteristics of viscoelastic materials determine that it has very good energy storage characteristics, so the viscoelastic material in engineering is widely applied to vibration isolation and damping. The appearance of new viscoelastic material in recent years, the dynamic problem of viscoelastic complex structures becomes more and more important.In this paper, constrained layer damping short cylinder shell made of elastic and viscoelastic materials is studied. First, this paper mainly introduced the basic viscoelastic material characteristics, mathematical model, energy-consuming mechanism, indexes relating to viscoelastic material and viscoelastic material performance parameters. After that, in this paper the mode strain energy method is used to solving the natural frequency and the loss factor of constrained layer damping short cylinder shell. Based on large finite element software ANSYS, compound floor short column shell is firstly modeled and computed to evaluate the damping effect with consideration of different position and different structure size of viscoelastic layer. And research of the influence law of constraint layer damping short column shell vibration characteristics with the different boundary situations different and viscoelastic layer position and viscoelastic layer structure size. Then the order document that uses the ANSYS’s secondary development language APDL to write the simulation analytical process. Besides, the paper exploits the man-machine interface in virtue of Visual Basic6.0language and studies the data transmission between VB and ANSYS. In the VB interface, the function of modal analysis of constraint layer damping short column shell by employing ANSYS is worked out. It raises an analytical efficiency. At last, do some modal experimental analysis of constrained layer damping short cylindrical shell. The experimental modal analysis system can be established with experimental modal analysis theory as basis. And it obtains the nature frequency and loss factor and modal shape.
