Firstly, this paper builds up the equivalent linear model of short cylindrical shell with damping ring/sleeves by introducing local contact stiffness and using vibration mechanic theory. Under rotating and static condition, the influence of variable parameters (position, width, the openings, thickness and size of interference fit) of damping ring/sleeves are also studied by software ANSYS. In order to ensure the reliability of short cylindrical shell at high temperature, it is necessary to improve the cooling technology. The surface of the short cylindrical shell will fabricate different quantity, diameter, arrangement types holes. For the short cylindrical shell, it is difficult to consider the influence of the small holes by building vibration characteristics model. So the natural vibration characteristics of the short cylindrical shell are studied by software ANSYS in this paper.Secondly, viscoelastic damping technology is broadly used in aerospace structures for vibration control, which has many advantages such as wide control frequency, high reliability, good robustness, simple structural form and low cost. This paper investigates the performance of constrained layer damping treatments applied to a short cylindrical shell. Plane strain analytical model is developed to predict the behaviour of such a short cylindrical shell over a large number of modes in a two-dimensional space. Predictions of steady state dynamic behaviour obtained using the model are validated by comparison with results from finite element analysis. The results show that this methods is accurate in low-frequency and high-frequency. Because of the frequency-dependent property of viscoelastic material, the structure is difficult to be analyzed by usual method. To solve this problem, the anthor proposes the modal strain energy iteration method, and using software ANSYS to calculate the resonance frequencies and loss factors of the local constrained layer damping short cylindrical shell structure. Some factors such as the thickness and treatment method which affect the vibration characteristics of the sructure are also discussed.
