Research On Protecting Of Qixian Ancient City

Locating in Jinzhong city Shanxi Province, Qixian who exists for one thousand and five hundred years is an historic Ming and Qing dynasties ancient city. It is one of the most complete ancient cities existing in China. The whole city including ancient street, ancient temples, ancient shops and residence owns reasonable structure and organic order. This forms integrated and magnificent cultural relics. Because it represents the culture of Jin-Merchant and reflects the Jin people’s life arts, it has an extremely high value in culture.Through ages of repair, a large number of traditional elements effectively save in city. But latter-day wars cause some damage to this city, such as the total ravages to wall and gate. Since the policy of reform and opening-up is implemented, the rapid development of urban construction produces great damage to it. The traditional style of this ancient city is also influenced to some extend, and the culture is gradually diluted and finally lost. Although the protection work has already carries out, the fast development of urban constructions and soar of population bring more and more heavy pressure to it. Nowadays, Qixian ancient city has enter a new development period, and the researches on this city should also enter a new period above protections.In this paper, we discuss the update problems in the premise of protection. Using the analysis of city form, street space and historical buildings as the breakthrough, we explain the meaning of protection on the base of culture value. Thus we further think about the existing problems of the city status. On the foundation of analysis and assessment, we combine with the existing protection and renewal theory and control the targeted area. At the macroscopic point, we continue integral space form. At the same time, we optimize street space scale at the microscopic angle. The renewal of the urban form mainly relies on inheriting the historical of the ancient city, reasonably remolding old city walls segment and towers and adjusting city street road form. Protection and update of historical buildings mainly relies on regulating according to the different classification, comparing with the same type but different style building and controlling some points in the building. Finally we put forward further content which should be done, and we hope that through these measures Qixian ancient city can be restored to traditional style. At the same time, we look for new developing ways to adapt to urban development.
