The Thinking Of The Integrity Protection Of The Ancient City Walls’relics

Walls, defending human’s homeland since ancient times, were quietly lying on the border of the cities, whether in foreign or domestic countries, and in times of peace or war. Some of them were demolished by people, some were luckily remained. They carried the entire history of human civilization, and owned inestimable historical value. Therefore, to protect existing ancient city walls is extraordinarily important today.For the protection of the ancient city walls themselves, there has had extensive experience and remarkable achievements at home and abroad. But as different countries have different urban plans, it seems even more conflicting about the relationship between the ancient city walls and their external environment in our country. Especially in today’s rapid development of the cities, how to balance the relationship between the ancient walls and their external environment has become a problem that we should concern about.In this study, I first take knowledge of the protection’s research background of the ancient city walls relics, analyzing the misunderstandings of the previous studies so as to obtain the main issues to be studied and solved, namely to achieve the integrated protection of the ancient city walls relics, then mainly use four research methods:the first one is basic research. Through data collection, I grasp the walls’historical development, in particularly the changes in the history of the Beijing city walls; The second is literature research. By reading and organizing relevant documents about the protection of historic buildings home and abroad, I classify and compare the protection of the historic relics according to the scope of the protection, and then find out our problems; The third one is field research. Via the field trips in Paris, Rome and other European historic cities, as well as the research of the status quo of the ancient city walls relics in Beijing, I get the first-hand information. While personally experiencing the differences of the protection of historic relics in different countries and cities, I compare and analyze their pros and cons, especially study in-depth the problems of the protection status of the existing ancient city walls relics in Beijing, scilicet the unharmonious relationship between the ancient city walls’ relics and their external environment, which is the core of this study; The fourth is the comparison and induction. By contrasting the three protection cases of ancient city walls’relics in Rome, Nanjing and Xian, I get the enlightenment from those classic cases home and abroad. Then through acknowledging the situation of Beijing Ming Dynasty City Wall Relic Park, Beijing West Wicket Ming Dynasty City Wall Relic and Beijing Yuan Dynasty City Wall Relic Park, I compare them with the former mentioned classic cases, identify their disparity and analyze the reasons of it, then summarize the problems and existing solutions, find out that the focal point of protecting the ancient city walls’ relics is the coordination between themselves and their external environment, and to achieve the integrity protection of the ancient city walls’ relics, which is just the conclusion of this study. Finally, I put forward a number of different views on the integrity protection of the ancient city walls’relics.
