Magneto-rheological Damper(MRD) is a new type of intelligent vibrationdevice whose sensor, controller and actuator were combined into one. When itapplied to vehicle suspension, it is efficient because of adjusting vibrationparameters of vehicle suspension according road condition, so that it can maintainthe handing stability and comfort of vehicle in a better level. Under the condition ofinvariable in the installation space, however, combined the force of shock absorberwith the seventh generation of Accord. And it can improve its maximum outputpowers and the magnetic flux density in the working gap. Magnetic field of themagnetic circuit, and the force characteristic are simulated by using engineeringsoftware, and a kind of MR damper is designed and manufactured. Finally, a testingbench for the special force characteristic is designed and experiments are carried out.The main work and result of this article is as follows:1. Combining the latest developments and productions of MR damper at homeand abroad, the working modes of MR damper are sorted, and its dynamiccharacteristics are analyzed and discussed. However, a general formula in annularradial MR damper is presented. The mathematical model of MR shock absorber isbuilt and deduced based on the mechanical models for magneto-rheologicalfluid(MRF) in the plate-plate and theories of hydrodynamics in the circular tube.2. Aiming at the magnetic circuit structure for tradition one and improvementone, the electromagnetic field is analyzed by the ANSYS FEM. The magneticinduction intensity distribution of piston in each region under two magnetic circuitstructure is analyzed. The results show that, in the condition that piston’s size isequivalent, comparised with the traditional magnetic circuit structure, workingclearance of the improved piston, where the magnetic induction intensity increaseby0.14T, which is92%of Magnetic saturation of MR fluid. At the same time, thesimulation model of damping force of MR shock absorber is built by engineeringsoftware. In the end, combined the simulation and analysis result with the seventhgeneration shock absorber of Accord, the parameters of structural design aredetermined and MR damper is manufactured.3. A testing bench used to determine the external characteristic is designed and manufactured.And the rheological properties of MR fluid are tested by therheometer MCR301. Finally, the damping force-stroke characteristics and thedamping force-velocity characteristics of MR damper are analyzed with differentcurrent I and different velocity V, the rationality of MR damper is verified.
