K-joint with both rectangular tubular and circular tubular is a common joint atsteel tubular joint. In the actual projects, Because of the bearing capacity andmaterial requirements,we often weld a plate between the main pipe and branchpipe. This article is about nonlinear finite element analysis to ultimate bearingcapacity of K-joints which has been strengthened by a plate. It is composed of amain pipe and two of branch pipe with an angle,Three pipes in the same plane,plate is welded on the surface of the main pipe,and branch pipe is welded on theplate.The strengthened joints with a plate has many kinds of superiorperformances, so they are widely used in a variety of major steel structure. Thecurrent steel structure standard has K-joint,s bearing capacity calculationformula,but the reinforced K-joint with plate has not the calculation formula.This brings great inconvenience in counting to designers.In this paper, on the basis of the theory and practical application,Usingnonlinear finite element analysis tool of ANSYS software,the finite elementmodel of81reinforced nodes and9directly welded joints are used for numericalanalysis in two branch pipe under pressure and tension. Four geometricparameters γ、τ、ξp、ηpare investigated to find the influence on ultimate bearingcapacity of joint, Results show that: the parameters of the γ、 ηpweresignificantly influence the ultimate bearing capacity of node, the parameter τ isthe second major factor,and parameter ξphad smaller effect. On this basis,thisarticle recommended different strengthening methods under different failuremodes on the actual project.
