Breakwater is one the popular kinds of port facilities in northern coastal areas of China. The safety and stability during the construction time of the breakwater on soft soil foundation are very important. It is necessary to study if the ground is stable during continuous deformation since the uneven settlement of the foundation and the common fast settlement rate at the construction site. The foundation settlement of south breakwater at Hulushan bay of Changxing island in Dalian is studied by introducing Biot consolidation theory and using modified Cam-Clay model with nonlinear finite element software ABAQUS. Ground settlment and horizontal displacement are obtained and the features and influecing factors in each construction stage are discussed through simplifying the model and simulating the conditions of the construction site. The necessity of the application of plastic drainage board is proved by comparing with the simulation. The rationality of the time limit of the project under the existing conditions of construction technonogy is discussed with the consideration of the settlement curves of different working conditions. The simulation results are in good agreements with measured values. For the simplified method in2-D for foundation of well group,the simulation results of settlement show small differences between the models of sandwall foundation and homogeneous foundation.Based on simulation results of consolidation, limit equilibrium method for the atability analysis is also introduced. Much attention is paid on the discussion on the selection of foundation soil strength index on divided construction stages and comprehensive analysis on the safety of the construction period with rubble mound breadwater is taken out with the help of GeoStudio simulation on the stability of slope during different construction stages.With the comprehensive analysis of simulation results, monitoring results and safety coefficient of settlement, it is found that the evaluation on the rationality of loading mode in each construction stage is effective and the final settlement and engineering amount is predictable through the analysis on the deformation of sonsolidation settlement of slope foundation and on the stability of slope. Certain guiding sense will exist when finding out the key monitoring phase in construction.
