As a kind of special machinery and equipment industry, Gantry crane is widely used in ship manufacturing. With the rapid development of Chinese shipbuilding market, the large ship, ocean engineering ships, offshore platform and other building projects continue to increase. The use of with large weight and amplitude and height single boom portal crane increased more and more frequently. As it was lifting injury accident increases day by day, especially the gantry crane arm falling accident, is one of the most deadly serious accident type of lifting injury accident, caused bad influence in society. Prevent the happening of the boom falling accident, is the enterprise must stick to the bottom line.In this thesis, the object of study is the gantry crane system. The crane is divided into several subsystems. Using the method of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to analyses the crane arm fall accident, and establishment a FTA model, identify the subsystem and key components caused crane arm fall. According to the important degree of the structure of each subsystem and the key components to determine the key factors, formulate corresponding safety Countermeasures. At the same time, take a series of additional safety device for which may lead to high failure of boom falling to ensure the safe operation of crane.
