As one of the fluid machines, centrifugal compressors play an important role in improving economic performance, and become essential industrial equipment in the field of aviation, chemical engineering and energy. By consuming energy, centrifugal compressors compress the working medium to a higher pressure. It is of great significance to improve the efficiency for not only power saving, but also lowering the cost. As two parts of the static component, the diffuser and volute of centrifugal compressor affect the operation efficiency and stability of machine simultaneously. Therefore, to design the diffuser and volute which can operate stability with high performance and efficiency and low energy consumption becomes a breakthrough point.The thesis introduces the process of design and optimizing of a certain centrifugal compressor with small flow rate by numerical simulation. Based on the knowledge of numerical simulation, some research about the internal flow of diffuser and volute is done. By using commercial software such as PRO/E and NUMECA, the numerical three-dimensional model is built and its3D mesh is generated. The author analyzes the unreasonable flow in the whole system and puts forward some proposals to improve the performance of diffuser and volute. Finally, the author finds a better plan to design the diffuser and volute. Then some work about checking its property in various work conditions. The result shows that uniformity in non-axisymmetric volute is better than some others in the distribution of velocity and pressure. The efficiency of the centrifugal compressor was increased remarkably.The result of this research shows that the small flow centrifugal compressor has a good performance and it can meet the needs of users basically. The study about different types of section shapes of volute may provide some experience and data support which is reference.
