Piston ring-Cylinder is one of the most important friction pairs in internal combustion engine, which has a large impact on power performance, economy, reliability and durability of an engine.45%-65%of the mechanical loss of the engine comes from the friction loss of Piston ring-Cylinder. It follows that, study on Piston ring-Cylinder is significant meaningful for improve performance of internal combustion engine.The actual working condition of Piston ring-Cylinder is very complicated. Factors such as high temperature, dynamic load, long stroke and lack of lubrication all have inconvenient influence on the wear and failure of the fiction pairs. So, it is important to develop a new tester which can simulate the real working condition better. Presented Piston ring-cylinder testers have not simulated the working condition in an all around way. Especially they neglected the dynamic load caused by the change of cylinder pressure. It is the common disadvantage of all the testers.In consideration of the disadvantages of existing testers, the tester’s mechanical structure is designed by the use of platforms such as AutoCAD, Solid Works and ANSYS. The stroke of reciprocating motion is90mm. The frequency of reciprocating motion can be adjusted continuously between0to10Hz. The temperature around specimen can be heated to300centigrade. The radial load upon specimen is dynamic. At the same time, the measurement and control system of the tester is designed using modern programmable controller, configurable software and sensor technology. The heating temperature and reciprocating frequency can be controlled precisely. The test parameters such as load, friction force, specimen surface temperature, ambient temperature can be collected, displayed and saved automatically. At last, a program is developed based on Lab VIEW to process dynamic data.The frequency of reciprocating motion and heating temperature can be controlled precisely. And the test parameters can be collected, displayed and saved at the same time. The measurement and control system is simple to operate and reliable.
