Most of aerospace parts are made up with typical difficult-to-machinematerials of which machinability is very poor. The machining quality of parts isclosely related to selection of the cutting tool and conditions. If they are choosenunreasonablely, machining efficiency and economic benefits would be reduced. Therefore, it is important for high-quality machining of aerospace parts to study onthe optimization of cutting parameters and cutting tool design. This dissertationprecents design of typical materials cutting database system for aerospace, and thenanalyzes machinability of the materials, as well as, develops optimization methodsare studied in this thesis.Firstly, based on the actual demand and regular cutting database designrequirements, the requirements and the development environment of the system areidentified in this thesis. Then this thesis proposes conceptual and logic model forthe database system. The architecture of this system is determined.Secondly, the typical aerospace materials machinability is analyzed withrespect to cutting tool materials, geometric angle and cutting parameters. Then thecharacteristics of aerospace materials, as well as the application principles of thecutting tools and cutting parameters are summarized, which proposes a single-factorexperiment of titanium alloy TC11. After discussing the result related to the cuttingforces and surface roughness, the best cutting parameters are obtained, whichprovides data support for the optimization reasoning function block.Thirdly, targeting the minimum machining time and lowest cost, the hybirdreasoning method regarding Rule-Based Reasoning and Case-Based Reasoning isused. And the thesis presents the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm to optimize the cutting parameters. Thus the optimization reasoning function block is completed. Inorder to validate the result of the optimization reasoning function block, anexperiment is carried out, which demonstrate the method is effective. Finally, the software prototype of the database system is developed. Within thesystem,8function blocks are the main parts, e.g. data management, experimentmanagement, knowledge base, aerospace solutions, optimization reasoning, systemmanagement, cutting tool design and help. The system can cover most ofrequirement from the cooperative enterprises.
