With growth of both world economy and population, energy shortage and environment problems have been critical issues. Developing renewable energy is an important way to solve the issues above. Wind energy is an important new energy, which is widely distributed, environmental friendly and renewable. Developing wind turbines has drawn lots of countries’attention and broad prospect for development. Switched Reluctant Generator (SRG) has advantages of simple structure, low cost, high reliability, flexible control and wide speed regulation, which is capable for variable speed system like S/G in aircraft or HEV as well as wind turbines. The thesis focus on the application of SRG in Wind Generation System (WGS), take full research on its working principle, control method and respective experiments.Chapter one introduces both the development of wind turbine and SRG wind generation system. Several traditional control methods of SRG WGS are introduced and compared to each other. And the thesis’s work and significance are given.Chapter two analyzes the structure and operation principle of SRG. It also analyzed the electromechanical energy conversion in one electrical cycle from the viewpoint of SRG generation process which refers to phase current waveform and flux trajectory. Three control methods are studied and compared. And all above builds the theoretical basis for next research.Chapter three analyzed the characteristic of wind turbines and compares it with the DC motors’performance characteristics. The control loop of wind turbines simulation system is designed based on traditional DC motors and an experimental platform is established for testing.Chapter four introduced the hardware of the SRG wind generation system and the schematics of circuit. The control software is proposed and both control loops of voltage regulation mode and MPPT mode are designed.Chapter five introduces the structure of experimental platform and provides the results and corresponding waveforms of both voltage regulation mode and MPPT mode. Both results are analyzed in detail. Chapter six concludes the work of the thesis and the results of research. It also introduces the future development in SRG and wind turbines area.
