The compliant mechanism is achieving movement and functional by the deformation of the flexible member in the mechanisms. Compared with rigid bodies, compliant mechanism has lots of the advantages, such as reducing the time that spent on assembly, the gap, the friction that between parts, body’s weight, and the maintenance. At the same time, it could help to improve precision, reliability, etc. So the compliant mechanism is very meaningful for the development of modern science and technology and machinery and equipment. Currently, most of the research about the compliant mechanism focus on the analysis of the structure and motion, and the topology optimization design, the geometric characteristics of the motions and the structure characteristics are few noted. With the compliance getting more and more attention during the mechanism design, mechanical design is required to be close to the natural condition, however the research on it is not rich whether at home or abroad. This paper pay the attention on the building of basic modeling theory and the analysis of structural characteristics, establish the derived theory of the compliant-reconfigurable-mechanism. The approach mentioned in this paper could be used to help finishing the design of compliant mechanisms.In this paper, the main content is about analyzing the planar compliant mechanisms. We will talk about the design of the compliant reconfigurable mechanism. In detail it includes several parts. Part one, it’s about the analysis of the geometric motion of the compliant mechanism. Part two, it’s about the establishment of the building block of the basic compliant unit and the basic compliant series-parallel model, their compliant characteristics are discussed in this part, too. Part three, it’s about how the compliant mechanism is designed.In the part one, the stress and the deformation problems of the plane compliant model are analyzed. By using compliance matrix to establish the relations between the stress and deformation, they can be used analyze the impact of the deformation working on the three displacement components, and these matrix present the relations between compliant characteristics and motion characteristics, beside they can also be used to study the position of the three displacement components produced by the deformation, and analysis the compliant characteristics and geometric characteristics of the deformation of the compliant mechanism.In the part two, according to the compliant characteristics and geometry characteristics studied in the above, four kinds of the building block of the compliant mechanism are established. Their stiffness matrix can be gained by using Finite Element Method. Then their compliant matrix also can be gained by getting their inverses. By analyzing the compliant characteristics with mathematics, thus the relationship among the compliant characteristics of each kind of the compliant mechanism would be known.In the part three. According to the part of the previous, a deeper discussion will be taken in this part. It’s main about the combined of compliant mechanism such as series or parallel. And their models would be established. Their size and the location are known from their compliant matrix mentioned before.Finally, having known the building block of the compliant mechanism and their seriesparallel models mentioned in the previous, their reconfigurable-section and the-variablesection of the reconfigurable mechanism can be gained. The property of the mechanism derived from the reconfigurable mechanism is also discussed.
