In recent years, the number of cars in our country has become more and more, deaths and injuries also have become more and more, it has been the hot topic in society. When the truck’s side was hit by a car or others, it was protected by its side guards. And the side guards with better blocking effect and energy-absorbing cushion effect can effectively protect the vehicle and pedestrians without defense. The side guards with the above effect can prevent cars and pedestrians from involved in the bottom of the truck. Therefore it’s necessary to research on the dimension of the truck side guards and test equipments. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, the dimension measuring system of truck side guards, including image gathering module and CCD camera calibration. Image gathering module includes a CCD camera, industrial camera and industrial personal computer, etc. CCD camera calibration includes common coordinate system, imaging model, calibration parameters, traditional calibration method and the calibration results were also given in this paper.Secondly, the image processing module of dimension measuring system of truck side guards. And it includes Camera calibration unit sizes under different shooting distance and target edge detection of truck side guards. According to the requirements of different applications, some algorithm were used in this paper, including Tsai’s two-step method, the image gray-scale transformation algorithm, image enhancement algorithm, the improved Canny operator algorithm, Hough transform algorithm etc. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the measurement is within the error correction 10 mm.Finally, the stiffness measuring system of truck side guards,including design of mobile truck side guards deformation test equipment and simulation of the structure with different sides guards. The former it has realized the development the detection device, including detection section, Lifting mechanism and cart. And it is used for testing the deformation of truck side protective device. In according with ANSYS software, the equipment scheme is not only feasible but also provides a theoretical basis for later development. The latter has carried out on the rigidity test for the truck side protective device simulation part, with ANSYS software. Software simulation parts include the selection of materials, the establishment of model, the definition of contact surface, the infliction of load and constraints, etc.
