With the development of ultra high pressure, long distance, large capacity cross regional network, power gird operation mode is more and more complex and the issue of unbalanced distribution of power flow is more and more outstanding, which bring hidden trouble to safty and economy of power system. All of this make the control requirements of power system more higher. At the same time, UPFC is most powerful device of FACTS family and its ability to control the power flow is very stronger. Thus, there is great theoretical and practical significance to research attracticve issues, such as UPFC control ability, power flow control ability and further study of optimization ability of power grid operation state of UPFC.Firstly, this paper summarizes construction and development situation of the dometic and foreign on the application of UPFC and grid operation state optimization. Secondly, it reviews basic generation principle of UPFC, including the structure, principle, operation mode and equivalent model. This paper puts forward the power flow calculation model consider UPFC and builds simulation model to study power flow control ability based on UPFC. Then, according to the distribution of power load, it researches optimization analysis on the rate of load balance degree under UPFC and the influence of power grid operation state. Finally, this paper puts a double objective optimization model taking the rate of load balance degree and network active power loss as the goal based on the above theory. In addition, verifies the model given in this paper through an example which obtains an Pareto optimal curve to guide the operation of power grid dispatching.
