In national policy ’One Belt and One Road’ and The State Grid Corporation of China strategy ’global energy Internet’, The wind power is encouraged by the Chinese government. But, due to the wind resources have randomness and intermittent, the power grid’s safety and stability will influence by large-scale wind power grid when it connected with wind farm.This paper first describes the importance of reactive power compensation of wind farm and the new policies of the state on the wind farm reactive power requirements; Research and analysis of the reactive power characteristics of wind farm, based on several mainstream application on the principle of reactive power compensation device of wind farm and the advantages and disadvantages are compared and analyzed; Rough of the reactive power compensation capacity according to a certain percentage ofthe capacity of the wind farm design of reactive power compensation capacity with the computational complexity and the network based on the proposed rules, the above two methods, suitable for wind farm operators to determine the initial wind field of main equipment of reactive power compensation capacity is sufficient reactive power estimation method based on this, the estimation method of the unit, three different types of examples of wind farm reactive power estimate analysis, verify the accuracy of the estimation method.The paper also points out that the wind farm reactive compensation capacity to meet the requirements, the key point is that the reactive power regulation range and the corresponding time of two aspects.
