In recent years, the rapidly developmental Chinese power grid will face larger and more serious security risks and challenges. How to find out the potential failure or accident risk and its influence in the power grid, and digest them before happening have great significance.Researches show that one of the main reasons caused the blackout accident is the existence of the power grid vulnerable unit. Therefore, one of the hot topics in the power grid at present is how to accurately find out the existing vulnerable unit to prevent the blackout outraging.Firstly, the complex network theory, the theoretical basis of structure vulnerability, was described. The new state of structure vulnerability and running state vulnerability were summarized based on a wide range of relevant literature, and the advantages and disadvantages of its scope were analyzed, then the existing problems were pointed out. Secondly, the indicators of power grid failure partition were researched. The theoretical basis of the vulnerable indicators was introduced, and the new comprehensive vulnerability indicator was constructed to assessment the vulnerability of the power grid in order to form the vulnerability collection. Thirdly, the algorithm of power grid fault partition was designed based on the vulnerability research. The purpose of the algorithm was to isolate the failure unit in a small area when it was in the collection formed before in order to prevent the blackout accident happen. Finally, the IEEE typical example was simulated. The advantages and disadvantages of the indicators were analyzed, and the result of the simulation was that the new comprehensive vulnerability indicator was better than the other two indicators. Then the vulnerability collection based on the new comprehensive vulnerability indicator was used to deal with the power grid failure. The result of the simulation verified the validity of fault partitioning algorithm designed in this paper.
