Facing the growing energy demand, dwindling fossil energy reserves and pressure of reduction, the development of new clean energy has become a pressing matter of the moment. Under the current technical level, wind power is most likely to be large-scale applied in all of the new energy. But the volatility and uncertainty of wind power will bring hidden trouble to the safe operation of power grid when large-scale applied. Therefore, the calculation of acceptance of wind power capacity in power grid has become an urgent problem to be solved for power planning.First, this paper introduced the principle of wind power and the technical specification of wind power grid operation. The analysis of current development situation of wind resources, in Liaoning, shows that it has the exceptional advantages for development of wind power. A model of wind power capacity with peak shaving constraints was proposed based on the analysis of affecting factors about wind power’s acceptance ability. Based on the power structured and load characteristic of Liaoning power grid, the wind power’s acceptance ability was calculated. Combined with the actual situation of Liaoning power network, the simulation analyzed the influence of the capacity of pumped storage power station, heating unit ratio and peak valley load difference to the wind power’s acceptance ability. Results show that in order to increase the wind power’s acceptance ability, Liaoning power grid could increase the capacity of pumped storage power station, reduce the proportion of the heating unit, electric heating instead thermal power plant heating, implement peak and valley price and control electric vehicle charging orderly.Finally, in the principle of relative safety, in order to improve wind power capacity, a new method of calculating acceptance of wind power capacity in power grid was proposed. The method allows limiting a part of wind power output when the grid facing adjustment difficulties. So it can improve the wind power installed capacity and increase the amount of wind power electric energy production in the long run. The example analysis shows that the new calculation method can greatly improve the wind power capacity in the power grid planning. The method restricts part of wind power output when the grid in peak shaving difficult time, but it can improve wind power electric energy production in the whole period of simulation time.
