VANET technology has developed rapidly and become more and more important in addressing road safety. This paper is supported by "Key technology research in vehicular collaborative collision warning system based on VANET" (ID: 1408085ME102), which is supported Anhui Provincial Natural Science Foundation. Intelligent vehicular terminal platform takes the advantage of VANET to avoid vehicle collision and ensure driving safety by communication of V2V and V2R. We choose embedded Linux as the operation system based on S3C2440A, combining GPS positioning information processing, ZigBee wireless network transition, and LCD monitor.In the hardware, the core-board and the function-board are removable structure. With protel99SE software, we design the function-board to provide many external data interface, such as ZigBee data interface, USB interface, serial port, CAN bus interface, and LCD monitor interface.In the function, the vehicular terminal system can provide driving safety warnings at intersections without traffic lights, sharp turns, steep slopes and poor weather conditions when the above environment affect the driver’s sight. Meanwhile vehicular terminal can receive messages such as road condition, traffic prohibition, and warning signs from roadside nodes. The message can help driver reduce burden and avoid accidents caused by lack of attention and missing traffic signs. This paper proposes a algorithm based on GPS data for driving safety.Wireless short-range communication module make use of TI’s ZigBee wireless RF chip CC2530F256. The application program is developed based on TI’s ZigBee open protocol stack, Z-Stack, to achieve nodes communication between vehicular terminals. Through outdoor communication test, effective communication distance is 250 meters under static state between nodes,200 meters under mobile state between nodes. The maximum size of packet transmitted is 100 bytes, included nodes speed, position, transmission speed, position, course over ground, etc.
