As a hub site of transit network, transfer station of Urban rail transit carries much more passengers than ordinary station, passenger timely distribution operations directly affect the entire line quality. The passenger flow increase rapidly brings huge challenges to management of station. The limiting railings outside the station are set to relieve pressure on the station facilities and operations of the vehicle, while railing affect passenger demand speedy passage. With the rising passenger demand for service station facilities, it is urgent to research the action mechanism between passenger flow and flow limiting facilities for subway transfer station for ease of laying out the railings properly and step by step controlling passenger flow. The study starts with aiming the railings of flow limiting stations and the following works are completed:(1) An investigation on flow limiting railings of18flow limiting stations and15transfer stations, totally33metro stations is carried out. Meanwhile the structure diameters of the railings are measured. Also, it statistics and summarizes the common layout forms of railings, which are channel、S and L type. By studying the effect of flow limiting railings on pedestrian flow, status to analyze its action features.(2) On the basis of the railings of Beijing Chaoyang Gate station, simulating the passenger flow during evening rush hours and the simulation results agree well with actual situation, which confirming it is feasible to use Legion to study the action mechanism between passenger flow and flow limiting facilities.(3) Simulation experiment scenarios are built according to the principle of full factorial design, the influence of the pedestrian traffic flow characteristics by the rail form and structure is analyzed based on the Legion simulation technology. Finally, the paper establishes a regression model and analyses the correlation between the outlet flow and pedestrian density in traffic area. The study shows that passenger density in traffic area increases with the passenger flow, and the layout form of railings and passenger flow have significant effect on the density in traffic area. Compared with the channel railings, the S type can significantly reduce the passenger density in traffic area. The research results can be used to guide and optimize the railings layout of subway stations and large venues, properly control passenger density, so as to provide a theoretical basis to progressively control passenger flow.
