With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, public demand for spiritual culture has become increasingly prominent. With the transformation of the development of the social productive forces and the public demand, the contemporary commercial buildings are undergoing dramatic changes. Under the influence of the concept of cultural consumption, People’s consumption behavior has shifted from physical consumption into experiential consumption. Traditional commercial buildings such as department stores cannot meet consumer demand in the functional structure, spatial flow lines and forms of contemporary shape.Since the introduction of cultural consumption in recent years, the contemporary commercial building functional showing a trend of functional diversification, space theming and image personalization.By analyzing update of the material value, social value and aesthetic value of commercial buildings, this paper presents three aspects of design updates, such as integration of diverse functional elements, the spatial organization of the experience topics, the shape of architectural image. Based on a large number of domestic cities commercial construction field research. From the perspective of functional organization, spatial structuring and shaping to sum up the design methods of contemporary commercial buildings.With the guidance of cultural consumption, commercial buildings are facing with a new situation of unprecedented challenges and developments. Based on the perspective of cultural consumption, I combine the outstanding issues and trends of domestic practice cases, to provide a theoretical basis for contemporary commercial building design, in order to make certain recommendations for guidance for the design of modern commercial buildings.
