Development of power systems increasingly rely on information transmission. The high-speed information channel in ethernet has become the platform for exchanging information and supporting technology of power systems. The transmission of device data in substation requires secure and reliable communication system network,so it is necessary to analyze and assess the reliability of the communication system architecture in substation. The structure of the thesis is as follows.Firstly, introduce the hierarchical structures and form of digital substation based on IEC61850 and analysis the function and feature of each layer.Secondly, describe the origin of IEC62439 and introduces the PRP network and HSR network concluded in the IEC62439,then illustrate the topology and node structure of the network respectively, meanwhile, discuss the advantage and disadvantage of them.Thirdly, introduce the concept of communication system’s reliability and the index. Describe the effect of Monte Carlo method on the substation communication system and the specific simulation methods and procedures, meanwhile, improve the accuracy of the method by import dangerous function. Finally, introduce invulnerability and survivability index of communication architectures, and calculate the index value of PRP and HSR network, compare the difference of two networks in invulnerability and survivability. It is easier to understand the form of PRP and HSR network in IEC62439, and knowing the invulnerability and survivability of each network, through assessing the reliability of high available automatic network in substation. It is a good theoretical support to continue in-depth study on the reliability of the system in future.
