Power resources in the development of the national economy has been the most important basic energy, can be regarded as the lifeline of the national economy development. In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, the demand of electric power resource growth, China has become one of the countries and regions most rapidly electricity demand and generation capacity growth of the world.As the reliability of high voltage electrical equipment, compared to other conventional equipment with higher GIS and relatively low repair workload, because the maintenance cycle of GIS also is much longer than the traditional equipment. In the new installation or after overhaul is in again after the re operation of the first year, internal flashover fault of GIS equipment have occurred in China, serious GIS accident happened 10, so the idea of GIS equipment repair the past is no longer applicable. At the same time, there is a problem with the GIS device, will lead to blackout phenomenon of long time, resulting in high maintenance costs, and bring great loss to power system. Many examples show that most of the faults can be early monitoring, so to reduce the GIS failure rate, will the GIS online monitoring technology of leading. Intelligent substation is an important part of engineering construction in our country’s "strong smart grid" in GIS, and the online monitoring system for improving the intelligent substation resources disposition ability, the security and stability level, and the interaction with the grid has a significant role in smart substation safe, efficient and stable operation will make "a strong smart grid" play a better role in serving the economic and social development.
