As a kind of better development and relatively more mature new energy, wind power is increasingly gaining attention by countries. So, developing clean and renewable energy has become a strategic choice of the world. In northern Shanxi is rich in wind resources, wind power maintains a rapid growth trend and has jumped over the province’s second-largest hydroelectric power. However, the operating characteristics of the wind turbine and conventional unit is different. To ensure the safety and stable operation of the system, when the access system of wind power is in large scale, after the deal with its access, we should study the effects of peaking capacity and transient stability of power.First, this paper introduces Shanxi grid operation characteristics and the development of wind power, and analyses the structure, principle, control method and the wind turbine model in BPA of double-fed generator. Secondly, we get the double-fed wind turbine transient operating characteristics through the machine infinite system simulation. By analyzing the change of power network fault critical clearing time before and after wind power integration, we study the influence of large scale wind power integration on transient stability of Shanxi grid. The results show that the time of critical clearing system after large-scale wind power integration is obviously reduced and the system transient stability is greatly reduced. In addition, we make a further study of the impact of large scale wind power integration to power grid N-2 serious fault transient stability in Shanxi, the simulation results shows that wind power integration makes system increase the volume of cutting machine and large scale wind power integration will worsen N-2 serious fault transient stability. Therefore, the grid N-2 occurred serious fault should removal the wind turbine first.Finally, according to the increasing problem of the power peaking pressure, this paper gives peaking capacity calculation methods and analysis power and load characteristics and the main factors restricting the integration capacity in Shanxi grid. On this basis, computing acceptance capacity of wind power based on peaking analysis and putting forward measures to improve the Shanxi grid peaking capacity.
