With the development of the complex system, the complexity of the complex network increased as well. Even though the probability of cascading failure was low, it could not be avoid completely. When accident took place, cascading failure would cause big amount of nodes failures in complex network, bring a series of malfunctions in nodes and lines in the network which would most likely caused blackout accidents. Nowadays, characteristics and elements among the cascading progress became more and more complex and the affects become larger as well. So as to make a proper study of cascading failure and major blackout accidents, workings based on complex network theory provided a new way to solve the question, which widely attracts researchers’ attention currently.Based on complex network theory, combined with the mechanism of cascading failure, three methods were used in this paper. Current research result was described at first. According to the researches, basic parameters of complex network were used to analyze the importance of nodes and edges, making it possible to use the parameters such as betweenness to analyze the cascading progress. Secondly, the variation of betweenness was used in the following workings. A complex network weighted model was built to analyze the consequence between the parameter DB(delta betweenness) which shows the variation of betweenness and the amount that cascading failure caused. The result of simulation showed strong relationship between the parameter DB and the the amount that cascading failure caused. Betweenness of nodes and edges could show the influence in the network. Then several amendments were made to improve the betweenness in order to make it more suitable for the research on the characteristics of complex systems. Using the changes of betweenness to analyze the load changes on the lines in complex network, making it possible to analyze the influence that the deleted edge brought when accident take places. Then characteristics of the betweenness changes in the neighbors were analyzed. In order to show the changes in network performance, real network model was used. After simplifying and reconstructing, a new model was used to show the relationship between betweenness changes in edges and the cascading failure amount. Based the results, the important lines of the network were recognized. The feasibility and the lack of the result was summarized at last, the limitations of the paper were explained at the same time.In this paper, the basic parameter especially the betweenness was used to analyze the inherent factors which affect the amount of the cascading failure. Results showed that relationship between the betweenness and the amount of cascading failure. Based the results, the mechanism of cascading failure and the identification of important lines in complex network were concluded as well. The conclusion of the paper may provide a better way to inhibit the amount that cascading failure caused when accident took place.
