People are paying attention to liquefaction hazard, which is a main secondary disasters caused by earthquakes. Many large scale of liquefactions have occurred in earthquakes according to records: the liquefaction area of 1976 Tangshan earthquake is approximately 24,000 square kilometers, the liquefaction area of 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake is approximately 12,000 square kilometers, the liquefaction area of 2008 Wenchuan earthquake is approximately 100,000 square kilometers. Therefore, the scientific value and practical engineering significance of prediction of liquefaction discrimination is very important. Most current discrimination methods on liquefaction are using standard SPT as index, but the methods using shear wave velocity as index needs to be examined by more experiments and facts, and this method has not been included in the building seismic code.By analyzing the database sorted out by Andrus and Stokoe in 1997,this paper firstly compared the application range and success rates of shear wave velocity method used in China and foreign countries, in addition, this paper proposed a hyperbolic model and a probabilistic model for liquefaction discrimination methods using shear wave velocity, and lastly it analyzed the reliability and application of the two models. The main contents and achievements of this paper include:1. As for the shear wave velocity database from the worldwide typical earthquake last century, this paper summarized its sources and analyzed its composition, and then provided some foundation knowledge helping others to improve the existing liquefaction evaluation methods.2. This paper presented and discussed on liquefaction discrimination methods using shear wave velocity, And analyzed the reliability of various formulas.3. In addition to introduced seven different discrimination laws and then compared their advantages and disadvantages, this paper analyzed and proposed a new model based on hyperbolic equation. Then use the data sample to analyze the reliability of this new formula.4. In addition to introduced seven different discrimination laws and compared their advantages and disadvantages, this paper analyzed and proposed a new model of logistic probabilistic equation, which was based on scriV -CSR relationship. And then use the data sample to analyze the reliability of this new formula.
