As a significant component of urban landscape, a waterfront in a city such as the scenery along a river whose elements are combination of natural landscape and human environment can directly have effects on the impression of the whole city.Recently, with the rapid enhancement of waterfront landscape design in China, people not only complete the function of the waterfront but also improve the quality of citizens’ lives by reforming such filed. However, these areas are always stereotyped currently in China or they often copy the excellent cases from foreign countries. It means they ignore the fact that traditional culture plays an important role in a waterfront. Thus, Chinese cases cannot become better because it lacks of its specific characteristics which can present the regional culture and history well.This essay will focus on the great case about waterfront landscape design and the current status in China. It is also going to present the definitions of Taoism Culture and waterfront. In addition, this essay will discuss the importance of Taoism Culture in waterfront landscape design and how to develop the solutions in this area. Illustrated by the case of Xin River scenic belt in Yingtan, Jiangxi province, started systematically the principals and strategies of the scenic belt with the theme of Taoism, put forward the overall design scheme of Xin River scenic belt combined with the concept of nature and the humanities. Express the Taoism by plants landscaping and human landscape and use examples to specify exactly.The Xin River scenic belt has been overall planned by the research of this task, making it become a place showed regional cultures of the Yingtan city, strengthened city impressions and established a whole image of the’Taoism capital’. This research is determined to make our country gradually built waterfront landscapes with regional characteristics and humanistic connotation instead of similarities and mediocrity, providing basis and reference for cultural landscape design of other traditional areas.
