Africa generally lack the well-equipped natural harbors. In addition, all ports on the continent often work beyond their technical ability that makes them more vulnerable due to the deterioration of their infrastructure. The aim of this study is to analyze the West African ports and to provide some recommendations on how to raise their efficiency. To analyze the expansion of traffic and to know the constraints which can stop port operation. To find the measures to improve the performance of seaport, and also to see how a hub port in the region could diminish the port cost and growth the cargo volume. To principally improve the intermodal transportation for the hinterland countries.Africa generally lack the well-equipped natural harbors. Measuring port performance in West Africa is an interesting issue, especially if a planned system through port is required. The efficiency of West African ports can potentially be evaluated by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model. The research findings can potentially affect decisions made by transporters, terminal operators and policy makers, as it provides an indication of efficiencies for all ports in the datasets and also examines in detail the sources of inefficiency for individual ports. The increased participation of developing countries in goods exports and the growth trade, would not be possible without global shipping networks, port reforms and investments in transport infrastructure as well as trade and transport facilitation.
