With the rapid improvement of people’s living standard, the effect is becoming more and more obvious, which power supply produces on daily life and industrial production. So it is very important to pick out and troubleshoot the fault line timely in order to prevent the huge loss in aspects of social production and life, which caused by the line fault in power system. The ground fault of overhead lines of distribution network is easily caused by many kinds of natural and unnatural factors in our vast country, such as terrain and sudden weather. However, the line selection and the location of single phase to ground faults are the technical difficulties, which always trouble the safe operation of the power distribution network. So the theoretical and practical significance is obviously showed in the research of this subject.The continuity of user’s power supply can be maintained by locating the section of fault line accurately and fast. What’s more, many unnecessary operations can be avoided. A non-contact overhead line of distribution network ground fault detection system has been designed in this research, which focuses the situation that is difficult to choose the fault line when the ground fault of the overhead lines occurs in the field. The GPS timing module is used to ensure the fault data be collected between the host and the slave synchronously in this system. In addition, the GPRS wireless data transmission module is used for data transmission. In order to accelerate the collected data processing speed, the 32-bit ARM core processor has been used in this system. The collected fault data are displayed on the LCD touch screen in the form of waves as well, which used for fault judgment. The function of the system can be accomplished by the touch operation, which can make the ground fault detection faster and more convenient.The experimental prototypes have been used in this topic, which based on large numbers of experiments. And the collect tests about actual signals have been taken on the overhead lines of distribution network, either. The system can work stably, through analysis of the test results. Not only can the wireless transmission and the waveform display be worked out excellently, but also the signal can be collected reliably. The rationality and the effectiveness can be adequately proved in this system, which are used in the ground fault detection of overhead lines of distribution network.
