For a long time, ship-bridge collision problem is widespread. Due to the small size and light weight of ships and slow speed, the damage was not serious at first. With the development of time, the ship size increases, the density and speed of ships are both increasing. All of these lead to a higher frequency of collision accident, also resulted in serious economic losses and casualties. The pier anti-collision device research mainly concentrated in the large bridge at present, special research of the small and medium-sized bridge is not enough. But there were some researches said that the refurbishment and maintain of old bridge would be a large demand in the future, so the main work in this paper is as follow.First, a new kind of pier anti-collision device called double walled steel cofferdam with spin pontoon was designed. Double wall steel cofferdam isolates ship and pier, spin pontoon wheels the direction of ship, and both of them are transformed to reduce the impact of ship-bridge collision. Second, there are two kinds of collision conditions, depending on the finite element analysis software ANSYS/LS-DYNA, a collision model between a 1000DWT ship and anti-collision device is setup to analyze the impact on force, energy conversion, stress, deformation and so on. Through the analysis, the performance of this kind of pier anti-collision device is satisfactory. And then there was a study about the different steel plate thickness of the whole device on the influence of collision effect. Finally a conclusion was summarized for anti-collision device according to the result of the collision data. The effectiveness and veracity of finite element numerical simulation calculation are closely related to the operation of the software. With further study of the software and accumulation of experience, the model and calculation will be more accurate to provide more valuable reference for anti-collision design of bridges over canal.
