With the rapid development of economy, our country’s electric power system on the load is increased, the impact and volatility load also increased accordingly, this leads to the power system of power supply is not stable and many power quality problems appear. Among them, the voltage fluctuation and flicker is one of the important factors that affect the electric power quality. To make accurate detection and evaluation to the flicker in order to reduce the damage in the power system it caused. At present, the study of flicker lags far behind other power quality parameters, and there is no detection of voltage flicker function on common power quality detection equipment, the flicker detection is an important part that cannot be ignored in power quality problems. Therefore, this article studied the voltage fluctuation and flicker systematically, and realizes the flicker detection function on the handheld power quality analyzer.First of all, in order to accurately detect flicker caused by the volatility of the voltage waveform, compare and analyzed the detection methods such as square method, the half-wave RMS method, the energy operator method, among them, the half-wave RMS detection calculate the voltage fluctuation in the method theory and the voltage fluctuation in the theoretical value is the same and no theoretical deviation, other detection method all exist theoretical and simulation deviation. This article choose the discretization algorithm based on the RMS method to do the flicker detection research.Secondly, in order to validate and improve the discretization algorithm, make simulation experiments on the flicker detection algorithm based on square method and discretization method respectively, get the simulation data and deviation, put forward the deviation that the discretization flicker detection algorithm possible causes and to correct the deviation. By comparison with the deviation of the two algorithms, discretization algorithm in sine wave fluctuations and low frequency that the deviation can reach 5%, but another algorithm cannot reach. Analysis and put forward the possibility that the discretization algorithm implement on real devices.Finally, transplant the discretization of voltage flicker detection algorithm on the hand-held power quality analyzer, then analyze the actual testing data and deviation and compare with the simulation result, and analysis of advantages and disadvantages of discretization algorithm in practical application, put forward the existing problems that the algorithm need to solve.
