Buckling restrained brace (BRB) improved by ordinary steel braces regarded as a new member provides the comparable stiffness and strength of an ordinary steel brace without the problem of compression buckling. BRB yields in tension and compression. In the case of uncommon on seismic action, it exhibits stable and predictable hysteretic behavior and provides significant energy dissipation capacity, being an attractive alternative to protect the frames.Although the predecessors have done a lot of theoretical research on it, but in practical engineering application, there is no unified cognition and design operation method. In view of this, the author of this paper is based on the relevant literature and the actual case of engineering, in order to achieve two purposes:(1), explore the application field to give an applicable guidance for engineering design; (2), while using this methodology, analyze a specific steel frame structure, to get some advice that could benefit the layout form for the BRB in the future.The main contents are as follows:a. According to the characteristic of the particular structure, this dissertation gives a normal support method, as well as four mixture systems including the BRB structure.b. Make the modal analysis for the above systems, which helps the understand the essential characteristic of the structure of the various options. Over the analysis, I mainly focus on the vibration period and vibration mode in order to verify the correctness.c. Using PKPM and SAP2000, apply the modal response spectrum to check the displacement angle between the elastic layers, elastic horizontal displacement, base shear and other parameters. Afterword I compare a result to verify another, so that the whole structure could meet the regulations of China.d. SAP2000 could also give rare case of non-linear time history analysis under earthquake, respectively compare different system with each other, in order to verify the capability to resist the earthquake and the buckling-restrained ability.The conclusion of this dissertation is:1) BRB support system excels the normal systems with regarding to the the rare-case seismic effect for energy dissipation with significant energy consumption and better performance; 2) to determine the layout and location of the BRB should via concept design and calculation, which worth noticing; 3) when the building meets the requirements of the premises, to make use of many small support to replace a few large support; 4) if one building could not yield energy using BRB, people should replace it with general support, in order to increase security and improve the structure in the case of economy reasons; 5) the design of the BRB should ensure the coincide for the center of the stiffness and the center of the gravity; 6) in the chapter three, the design process proposed has a certain practicality.
