With the development of vehicle technology, the electric vehicle which used in-wheel driven system gradually become the development trend of the future. It has four independently controllable in-wheel motors and it is easy to make integrated control by wire technology. Compared with traditional vehicle, short drive mileage is the major factor restricting the development of electric vehicle. Energy management provides an effective way to solve the short drive mileage problem, which is of great significance. The strategy of energy management for four in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle are researched in this paper, and the main contents are summarized as follows:(1) Analysis of the system structure of in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle. Based on the direction of energy, the vehicle’s electrical system is divided into power system, transmission and distribution system, electric drive system and electrical devices. Therefore, a total energy management strategy for in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle is proposed.(2) Study of the energy management strategy of electrical devices. Firstly, the devices are divided into security device and comfort device. Secondly, a remaining mileages prediction algorithm based on prior knowledge is designed by analyzing drive cycle. Lastly, according to the information of remaining mileages and classifications, the energy management algorithm for electrical devices is proposed.(3) Study of the energy management strategy of drive system. The power allocation algorithm based on the minimum loss of drive system is proposed by analyzing the loss model.Energy management is the emphasis on electric vehicle’s research. A simulation model of in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle is built by ADVISOR and TESIS DYNAware software. Combined with related knowledge, this paper conducts further research on how to optimize the energy management technology. Simulation results of the proposed strategy show improvement in remaining mileages and energy usage ratio.
