In recent years, the incidence of our country highway traffic accidents become higher. Due to Mountainous Expressway’s special geographical conditions and environmental characteristics, Mountainous Expressway’s route design index usually on low side and the proportion of high subgrade/ deep cutting/ bridges/ tunnels and large longitudinal slope is high, which bring some hidden trouble to traffic safety. In the process of driving, the main source of information is visual system. For the general highway alignment design and safety evaluation, the key point of sight distance inspection and evaluation is plant and vertical plane. The typical driving range test and evaluation methods cause the specification is hard to find the existing sight distance problems in the complex road conditions: ①The sight distance value under actual operating speed may be more than the sight distance value under specification required design speed;②The driving sight distance value calculated by current method may be different with actual three-dimensional sight distance.Paper response to the 2014 "Specification for Safety Audit of Highway"(draft standard for examination) sight distance requirements on basis of the PuXuan highway preliminary design stage data. Not only use operating speed to check sight distance of PuXuan highway, but also finish the driver space vision simulation and three-dimensional sight distance check under design speed and operating speed. According to the require of "specification", Paper puts forward sight distance traffic evaluation content and procedure of preliminary design stage, construction stage, completion stage and operation stage, bring up some sight distance safeguards for different kinds of bad sight distance roads.
