The intersection is an important node in the urban roadway networks, which serves as the role of allocating right-of-way for various traffic flows from all directions and becomes the epicenter for traffic conflicts. Traffic conflict affects not only the efficiency of intersection operations, but leads to crashes. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of the influencing factors of the conflict in order to improve the safety of the intersections. There are many reasons for the cause of conflict, one of which is intersection sight distance triangle. For the driving behavior, the driver has more than80%of the information coming from the visual. Only the driver guarantees that the boundary of the intersection is free of blockage within the area of the sign distance triangle, he/she can have the sufficient distance to predict and avoid potential conflicts and thus achieve the goal of safe operation throughout the intersection.The paper takes motor vehicles and conflicts between motor vehicles as the research object, conducting an analysis of the impact based on the sight distance triangle. Furthermore, the research purpose some guidelines to reduce traffic conflicts and improve the safety performance of intersection. At the beginning part of this paper, we introduced traffic conflict theory. Unsignalized T-intersection is taken as the research object. At the same time, the research analyzes the process of generating traffic conflict, traffic classification, and methods to determine the severity of the conflict on the basis of mechanism of traffic conflict. Secondly, according to the geometry, stopping sight distance and gap acceptance theory, this paper analyzes the impact of speed limit, vehicles, obstacles, angles and other factors of the intersection and developed sight triangle models for unsignalized intersection and minor roads with a stop controlled. Thirdly, on the basis of analyzing reliable and detailed data, the study formulates collection plans of intersection and acquisition scheme of traffic conflict data. Moreover, the paper conduct a statistic analysis of the field data with the use of one-way ANOVA. In the end, we give the suggestion in the situation that sight triangle of the intersection do not meet the requirement.
