As a complex undertaking, s hipbuilding i nvolves a vari ety of trades at different process es and a great number of resources and supports particularly i n the engine room mooring phase. The traditional mode of schedule manageme nt, whi ch is t oo ext ensive, can no longe r meet the demand of today as hum an cost ascending,production cycle s queezing and ship owner becom ing more rigorous. It is, therefore,imperative to look for a method of schedule m anagement t hat is both scientific and reasonable to put a end t o problems of delays, unorganiz ed planning, waste of resourc es and hum an cost rising.By first presenting t he s ituation of product ion pl anning managem ent in the H company, and anal yz ing its work flow, this thesi s lists the exi sting problems in production pl anning manageme nt in engi ne room moori ng phase and their impacts,and draws a tree graph for these problems. Ba sed on the above, the paper estimates the duration for various working processes with the method of mathematical expectation, identifies project’s crit ical paths in engine room moori ng phase by CPM,and arranges product ion accor ding to criti cal paths. It is noted that, to execute production following critical paths only cannot ensure on-time progress of the project for the reason that it faces resource constraint. It, therefore, required a new schedule management method---opti mal scheduling with the help of cri tical chain project management(CCPM). By elaborating the theoretical basis and operating principle of CCPM and applying t he theory of critical chain into project schedul e managem ent during engi ne room moori ng phase, this paper establishes planning management i n engine room mooring phase on the basis of critical chain, identifies t he critical chai n of the project by ACTIM algor it hm, and ascerta ins the durati on of various working process es by 50% completion probabil ity in critical chain. The value of each buffer area is determined by RM SD which is added to fixed buffer area. By combining the monitoring method of criti cal chain buffer area, a buffer m anagement grid, is put forward as a simple and practical way for real-time monitoring for scheduli ng.This thesis is aimed at shortening the cycle of engine room mooring phase for the subject company wit hout investing ext ra resources and offering some referenc es for the appli cation of critical chai n t echnology in the field of marine engineering.
