Metro is the symbol of a modern metropolis in terms of infrastructure. The construction of Xi’an Metro was started in 2006, and it was completed and opened to traffic in 2011. This paper studies the regional characteristics of the existing subway lines of Xi’an Metro, in combination with the comparison of well-known metro architecture at home and abroad, to sum up the theories and methods for the design of Xi’an Metro that are worth drawing on and enhancing.Metro architecture mainly includes the main building and annexes. In the main building, the station lobby and platform are the major space used for passenger transportation, so the architectural design should focus on how to more effectively and quickly transport passengers and realize the transfer from one line to another, and how to use the space; the buildings of entrance and exit in annexes are also an important part of metro station design, as well as the key point of connection between subway lines and a city. The architecture of entrance and exit lobbies is highly representative and shows the characteristics of metro architecture design in different times. The paper focuses on the features of the regional design for the platforms, station buildings and entrance and exit lobbies of Xi’an Metro. The stations of Xi’an Metro are all different in their history and culture. Through sorting out the information on Xi’an Metro and the survey and research on the status of the architecture of Xi’an Metro, the paper studies the design methods and concepts of metro architectural art, and the ways to represent the regional culture characteristics in public art design for metro stations and its significance, to explore how to show the profound cultural and ethical features of Xi’an through the themes and ways of representation selected for public art.
