At present, the research on the root pile mainly concentrated on the foundation reinforcement and rectifying, but the theoretical research of root pile used in slope engineering is very scarce. In recent years, a large number of slope need to be treated with the rapid development of urban and rural construction in our country, especially the advancement of mountainous area construction. Thus, it provides a valuable opportunity for the application and theoretical research of the root pile in slope reinforcement engineering. In this paper, the mechanical properties and resistance mechanism of root piles are discussed in detail based on one actual slope treatment project in Yan’an.The main conclusions are as follows:1、The position of each single pile has significant effect on the horizontal displacement and internal force of the pile when the root pile group system used in slope reinforcement engineering. Specifically, the closer it gets to the slope toe, the greater value of the horizontal displacement and internal force of the pile body occured.2、With the increase of pile modulus, the horizontal displacement of pile is reduced and the value reduced more obvious as it’s position closer to the top of the slope. At the same time, the increase of the pile modulus can improve the horizontal bearing capacity of single pile.3、Within a certain range, the increase of elastic modulus of soil can significantly reduce the horizontal displacement of piles. However,this effect is not obvious after elastic modulus of soil gross over 90 MPa. Similarly, we found that the increase of elastic modulus of soil to improve the horizontal bearing capacity of root pile is limited.4、In a certain range, it can improve the working performance of the upper part of pile more obvious than the lower part with the increase of the cohesive force or internal friction angle of soil. When it continues to increase to a certain value, it can improve the performance of the whole pile body, but the effect is not obvious as to the previous process.5、The pile group system can’t reinforce the rock and soil between pile and pile if the pile space is too large in practical engineering. Besides, it results the effect of pile-soil failed and the decrease of the integrity of the root pile group system, which makes the more horizontal displacement of single pile. Thus, the pile group system are more likely to suffer damage.6、Derived the theoretical calculation formula of root pile based on the calculation method of traditional anti-slide pile, and its calculation results are proved reliable.
