With the speeding up of urbanization, the land use situation of the loess area is increasingly tense, the emergence ofhigh-rise buildings is getting more and more, the distance between buildings becomes more and more intensive,due to space limitations, some foundation pit excavation in the loess area, have to excavate beside the building, in addition in some mountainous cities, buildings had to be built on the slope, the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope of foundation is estimated to be a must faced issue. But up to now,the problem hasn’t been solved properly. Because of the underestimated of the slope of foundation, some slope beside buildings have found landslide and collapse which makes casualties in some loess area. So how to choose the location of buildings close to the foundation pit has become a must faced issue in construction process. And the location is very important to the stability of buildings. So the study of the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope of foundation in this passage has a certain practical significance. Finite element method is a kind of very effective for the bearing capacity calculation of the slope of the approach,this paper use the elastic- ideal plastic finite element method to simulate the situation which put the strip foundation on the shoulder place of the slope and the calculation problem of this limited bearing capacity,use difference between the stability number Taylor of the actual status of the slope andthe stability number Taylor of the limit state of as the index, analysis the discriminant conditions of different failure modes of the slope of foundation,and further givesthe formula to calculate which based on the finite element analysis of the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope of foundation.According to the numerical simulation of finite element method,we can get the minimum safe distance under the different conditions of foundation pit close to buildings. The result is: 1. The finite element analysis results can intuitively show two foundations of slope failuremode, namely the slope failure mode and failure mode of foundation. 2. As the strip footing in the process of slope shoulder slope gradually move, thefoundation gradually transforms the failure mode of slope failure mode. 3. When the strip foundation moving distance is enough to keep bearing capacity of slopenot change, it becomes into a horizontal foundation problems.
