Pneumatic tyre roller is one type of machine, which compacts statically to the required compactedly layer material though its own weight and the special pneumatic tyre. Pneumatic tyre roller is widely used in compaction of all kinds of material, such as base layer, the second base layer, fill and asphalt surface. In recent years, with the constant improvement of the construction quality requirements, especially the improvement of surface quality requirement, hydraulic pneumatic tyre roller has been paid more and more widely attention and applied owing to high performance of surface compaction. In the start-stop dynamic process of hydraulic pneumatic tyre roller, if the appropriate control measures aren’t taken, the inertia load will bring some problems, such as slippage, upheaval, uneven compaction, which seriously affect the operational quality of the machine. Therefore, study of the key control techniques of pneumatic tyre roller are of great significance in improving the performance and quality of the machine.In this paper, the key control techniques of 26 t hydraulic pneumatic tyre roller are studied. Based on the working principles and operating modes of the machine, the function requirements of control schemes are proposed, the control scheme is determined on the requirements of control systems. The hardware such as controller, operating handle, display and so on are selected and the pin assignment of input and output signals is completed. The control method and control diagram of the key techniques of driving control, limit load control and inertial load control etc. are developed. By the oretical analyzing and calculating of the composition and charateristics of inertial load, the size of the peak acceleration(deceleration) is obtained in the start-stop procssing of pneumatic tyre roller, then according to the work experience, the average values of acceleration(deceleration) is determined of the machine. Using AMESim and MATLAB/ Simulink as simulation platform, the electrohydraulic combined simulation model of 26 t hydraulic pneumatic tyre roller is established for the process of starting. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the control methods in the paper.
