The topic of ship structural optimization design has developed very fast. Considering the structure strength and its economical efficiency, it is aimed at reducing the hull structure steel weight. Formerly, the research about the ship’s structural optimization focused on the size optimization. By optimizing the thickness and the area of section of the constructional element, the goal of reducing the hull structure steel weight has been achieved. Though the topology method is less used in the field of ship’s structural optimization, this method can primely confirm the best form of the transmission of the force for structures and make the arrangement of the structure fit best. After optimizing the mid-section structure of one oil tanker by topology optimization method, this paper is to determine the topological configuration of the structure and carried out size optimization to some extent.(1) Do some research about methods of structure optimization and some vital problems about the sensitivity analysis, approximate model, the algorithm of optimization and the constraints of fabrication process;(2) Based on the SIMP material density method, aimed at reducing the volume fraction using the structural displacement and stress. And with the use of three cabin model and sub-model, this paper compares the pros and cons each model approach(3) Do some research on the oil tanker cargo cabin size and mechanical structure performance optimization based on Common Structural Rules for oil tankers, with the constraints of Von-Mises stress, identify middle cabin cross-section design of a 320000 DWT VLCC and do size optimization to the key plate structure...
