The short supply of energy is increasingly serious at present world, which influences the sustainable development of our planet and human beings. In China, the energy consumption from public buildings accounts for 30% of the total. And the energy consumption of HVAC accounts for 40% to 50% of that from constructions. Therefore, it is of great responsibility for HVAC to be involved in the practice of construction energy saving. The centrifugal chiller enjoys various advantages, like, remarkable cooling capacity, small amount of floor space and reliable performance. Thus, it has been increasingly accepted by the customers, becoming as their prior choice among all the commercial air-conditioners.This paper mainly discusses the performance designing of centrifugal chiller. The designing COP of chiller is above 1 class energy efficiency(≥ 6.1W/W), which is based on the testing condition specified in GB/T 18430.1-2007 Vapor Compression Recycle Part 1: Industrial or Commercial Cold Water(Heat Pump).The first part intends to explore the aerodynamic designing requirements of the dual-stage centrifugal compressor by analyzing the best allocation of pressure ratio. Then, it works out the 1D parameter of major aerodynamic components, which meet the setting goals of performance and efficiency, by adopting modular COMPAL in the professional designing software, NREC, to figure out the 1D designing and analysis of compressor. After that, the paper focuses on completion of the 3D model of aerodynamic components, which implements the free surface and full three-dimensional flow designing strategies derived from the modular Blade Gen in software ANSYS. Further, the paper would discuss the partition in network and CFD optimization of the aerodynamic components by using Turbo Grid in software ANSYS and modular CFX. The last part would analyze the impeller static stiffness and check the data by designing the structure of impeller and using the software of Hyper Works.After the optimization of designing, the prototype of high efficient dual-stage centrifugal compressor has been through the performance test successfully, which makes the product of centrifugal chiller possible. And the new product obtains the recognition from both the certification institution and the experts, which remarkably augments economic and social effectiveness.
