With the deep development of the western development strategies and the implementation of all-round well-off society in China, the development speed of urbanization was improved, and the peoples’ living standard was improved. Most area of Tibetan Plateau belongs to the cold and severe cold region. The unique environment in this area, such as the low pressure of oxygen, average temperature and relative humidity, the strong sunshine radiation, has a big influence on the indoor thermal comfort environment of residential buildings, which need to analysis and research systematically. Meanwhile, there is a big difference of energy structure between Tibetan plateau area and the mainland region. The energy resource, such as coal, oil, gas and conventional fossil energy, was very lock, and the ecological environment is fragile in Tibetan plateau area, which is not suitable for using conventional energy to improve the indoor thermal environment. Therefore, it is particularly important to research passive control strategies, which both can reduce consumption of conventional energy and can make a more comfortable, harmonious and natural indoor thermal environment for residents.In this paper, the research contents mainly included:In the paper, the special climate environment data of Tibetan plateau area were collected and researched, and the influence of special climate environment to residential indoor thermal environment was analyzed, which put forward the necessity of improving indoor thermal environment. Meanwhile, the applicable climate resources to improve the indoor thermal comfort environment in the region were analyzed, and the necessity of passive control strategy analysis and research were puts forward.The present situation of the indoor thermal comfort environment throughout the whole year was analyzed. The thermal comfort environment adaptability model and the comfortable region scope of environment were obtained through the analysis of the thermal environment index. In Lhasa area, for example, the passive control strategies to improve residential buildings thermal comfort environment for the whole year were put forward. Based on the thermal comfortable range of temperature and humidity of residential buildings, and typical meteorological year data in Lhasa, the relevant improvement way was put forward, which can improve the indoor thermal environment.The residential building palisade structure types were researched in this area, including architectural form, structure, etc. The traditional Tibetan buildings, the new Tibetan dwellings, directly passive solar house and phase change wall system passive solar houses were chosen as the researched object, and envelope thermal performance of the typical residential building were tested.The effectiveness of passive control strategies were analyzed by the actual test. In winter, the application of passive solar heating was studied based on the test and analysis. In summer, the applicability of natural ventilation to improve indoor thermal environment in passive solar house was analyzed. Meanwhile,the applicability of Xiang Bian Shi passive solar house was analyzed in Tibetan plateau region.It put forward the application of passive solar house in Tibetan plateau area in this paper, and some improving suggestions for passive solar houses were put forward. There are extremely important practical significance that it can provide the reference and basis to improve and control indoor environment in this area by the relevant results of this paper.
