Accurate measurement of the moment of inertia has significant implications for weapon manufacturing, auto industry, etc. During measuring the moment of inertia using moment of inertia measuring system based on torsion pendulum, the temperature variation of the torsion bar may lead to big error in the measuring results. Therefore, the research on temperature compensation technology in moment of inertia measurement will help to improve accuracy of the measurement result. This paper studies the temperature compensation technology in moment of inertia measurement using torsion pendulum systematically and proposes the temperature compensation formula for stiffness coefficient of torsion bar and moment of inertia measurement.This paper analyses the influence that temperature change of the torsion bar on the moment of inertia measurement in combination with measuring principle of the moment of inertia and correlation formula for stiffness coefficient of torsion bar, then build the model for moment of inertia measurement when the temperature of the torsion bar changes.The experimental system consists of torsion bar temperature measurement system and moment of inertia measurement system is built and makes overall design of the experimental program and the specific experimental procedure based on the content to be studied and the models built. A lot of experimental data is got through experiments that measure the moment of inertia when the temperatures of torsion bar change.This paper analyses the experimental data and summarizes the experimental results. Get the temperature compensation formula of stiffness coefficient of torsion bar using the least squares method, accordingly, temperature compensation algorithm for moment of inertia measurement is deduced.Finally, the effect of the derived compensation algorithm is verified through the actual validation and the result shows that the temperature compensation algorithm has improved the measurement precision dramatically when the temperatures of the torsion bar change.
