The moment of inertia is one of the most important physical quantities of rigid body, and can affect mechanical properties and characteristics of many mechanical parts, aircraft and other structures. The importance of measuring the moment of inertia is self-evident. After researching and contrasting the past moment of inertia measurement devices, a new kind of tester based on the torsion pendulum method—double-torsion-bars mechanism equator moment of inertia tester for cylindrical parts which were on some certain conditions was created. The whole measurement device of double-torsion-bar mechanism was introduced, including the mechanical structure, hardware circuit and software design.The working principle and measuring process of double-torsion-bars mechanism was illustrated in detail and the effective measuring ranges of single torsion bar and double torsion bars were calculated, it turns out that the effective measuring range of single torsion bar is about one hundred times higher than that of double torsion bars and this device can measure all the certain cylindrical parts. Errors of the double-torsion-bars mechanism are analyzed, and the structures of double-torsion-bars mechanism were analyzed using the finite element analysis software SolidWorks Simulation, it shows that the double-torsion-bars mechanism meet the strength requirement.
