Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, science has been penetrated through almost all areas of human life deeply. As a widely concerned field, vehicular networking has done well in recent years. However, people are no longer satisfied with its applications on smart traffic and safe driving. The needs of higher level of its Internet services and audio-visual entertainments are presented. Whereas, unlike traditional wired networks and general MANET, VANET(Vehicular Ad Hoc Network, VANET) has lots of characteristics, such as a faster node-movement speed, rapid changes in network topology, unstable surrounding channel and so on. Owing to this, previous studies of cable video transmission are no longer applicable. A large amount of data and high real-time features of real-time transmission of video make it very difficult in the VANET.At present, the researches for video transmission in VANET mostly only are doing in software simulation level. It lacks proof analysis of real-time video transmission using VANET platform under the complex communication environment. To solve these problems, the main jobs in this thesis are as follows:1. This paper analyses the network characteristics, and focuses on the AODV routing protocol using on VANET. Then, I carried out a network performance testing after transplanting AODV routing protocol on VANET development board successfully. On this basis, I set up video transmission hardware platform with USB camera and portable USB monitor, then use FFmpeg encoding and decoding package to develop a real-time video transmission system successfully2. During the time we built up the system, I found multi-hop video service often can’t be connected, this paper presents a problem for the use of the algorithm ICMP link pre-established, and resolve the TCP connection timeout problem successfully.3. In the end, I established some performances, using this platform in the indoor and outdoor scenes. After analyzing real-time video transmission performance at different distances in different hops under VANET, as well as multi-hop transmission for vehicle network video quality, I draw some conclusions from the experiments.
