With seriously development of the energy depletion and environmental deterioration, the trend of modern engine not only keep on chasing the performance of power and economy, but also pay more attention at the demand for energy efficiency and environmental protection. Compressed air powered engine use high pressure air as the working medium, translate the stored pressure energy into mechanical energy output, driving vehicles with compressed air. The entire work process has no burning, no chemical reaction and no pollutant emissions, reaches zero emissions in the true sense. In this paper, the research is about the compressed air powered engine, aim at improving the energy efficiency.Through theoretical calculation and simulation, established the thermodynamic model and energy conversion model of compressed air engine, studied its energy efficiency features, seeking to optimize the design. The main contents are as follows.1. Analyzed the compressed air engine works by using thermodynamic theory, established the mathematical model which is consistent with the actual situation of the working process. Based on this model, exergy analysis module is added for energy use situations of compressed air engine2.Programmed by mixing SIMULINK and GUIDE together, and created a visual interface, established a simulation model of compressed air engine working process.3. Analyzed the basic rule of cylinder gas changes and performance parameters of the compressed air engine. Test and verified the model with the existing experimental data, to determine the feasibility and reliability of it.4. Studied at the valve gear parameters’ influence of compressed air engine performance during the intake and exhaust, such as intake and exhaust flow area, intake duration and intake advance angle.5. Analyzed available energy distribution of compressed air engine work process. Further research were done to find out the parameters’ influences of energy efficiency such as gas tank pressure, intake pressure, intake decompression, ambient temperature, speed, valve parameters, cylinder structure parameters. Got some useful conclusions as follows. Tank pressure should not exceed 3.0MPa. Intake pressure should be less than 3.5MPa. Volumetric decompression is more efficient. Intake duration should be choose between 60°CA and 80°CA.
