A Syntax Analysis On Landscape Architecture Form Based On Landscape Urbanism

Traditional “architectural paradigm” can no longer resolve the problems occurred in the diversified contemporary metropolis, so the pattern of interdisciplinary solutions bring the landscape architecture into existence. From the perspective of landscape urbanism, this paper takes syntax in linguistics as its research method and analysis tool to summarize and explore the architectural forms based on the relevant theories and cases, thereby concluding the generating pattern and logics as well as systematically analyze and summarize the design strategies for landscape form. It expects to provide references for relevant design practice and researches in the future.This paper falls into three parts including seven chapters. The first part consists of chapter 1 and 2which introduces the theoretical backgrounds. Chapter 1 the introduction adopts literature research to conduct literature review and chapter 2 illustrates how to translate the landscape architectures under background of interdisciplinary approach by using relevant theories in complexity science. The second part is about the generation of landscape architecture, including chapter 3, 4,5 and 6. Chapter 3 makes conclusion on the characteristics of landscape architectures from the paradigm, space and function through comparative research; chapter 4mainly uses analogy research supplemented by case study and field research, and utilizes the generative grammar in linguistics as analysis tool and generative mechanism to explore the generating mechanism of landscape architecture. In Chapter 5, the author adopts analogy research and inductive analysis, and takes the landscape urbanism as research background and theoretical perspective and paradigm, to analyze the form generating strategy for landscape architecture different to traditional architectural paradigm. In chapter 6, experimental analogy method supplemented by inductive analysis is employed and parametric design is introduced to analyze and summarize the generating logic behind the landscape form. In part 3, a conclusion is provided to illustrate the research results and deficiencies, as well as relevant suggestions; it also makes expectation in domestic landscape architectures. By doing so, with landscape urbanism as macro-theory background, syntax in generating linguistics as the method and analysis tool at medium-level to explore the form feature of landscape architecture at micro-level and conclude the generating mechanism and logic of architecture forms.The innovation in this paper includes two aspects: the first innovation is that it develops relevant discussion from a multi-level and multi-angle perspective based on the multidisciplinary views covering landscape urbanism, complexity science and linguistics, which is different to the common studies on landscape form generating strategies at single level; the second aspect is that it is different to the perceptual and “black-box” operation in previous researches but place the landscape architecture covering site analysis, form generation and final construction in a parameterized context, in which it can be operated via a controllable program to realize the data quantization and processing programming.
