Recently, the short-circuit currents levels for some regional power grids in China would be probably too high to securing the safety and stabilities of these power systems in the future. With the development of power electronic technology and high-temperature superconductor technology, the fault current limiting device is one of the effective methods to limit short circuit current. So, standing from the key technical problems of the FCL(Fault Current Limiter) side device, this thesis argues analyzes its operating principle,model structures, overvoltage and loss.Firstly, the thesis builds the simulation model of FCL based on PSS/E. It simulates and analyzes the electromechanical transient process of FCL. Using the two areas with four generators as example, Simulated results show the validity of this kind of method.Secondly, in view of the current limiting equipment was put into in the operation Grid transition period, from the perspective of operation scheduling optimization, considering a kind of running loss, using connection mode to adjust and optimize the generator output to control the current limit of short circuit current amplitude method.Thirdly, According to the sending power grid of 500 kV bus short-circuit current and short-circuit current distribution as the foundation, for the breaking capacity of short-circuit current or high approximation circuit breakers site, as the installation of the short circuit current limiter alternative site. According to the principle of resonance type of short circuit current limiter, and choose FCL suitable parameter combination of short circuit current.Finally, Based on high voltage short circuit current limiter electromechanical transient model, in the area of a 4 machine 2 system and sending grid analysis of high voltage short circuit current limiter effect on system transient stability, and through the actual case to test and analysis and discussion.
