The body-in-white structure directly affects the safety, comfort and durability of the vehicle, so whether the body structure has good properties is of great importance. This paper takes the body-in-white structure of a certain type as the research object, presents the finite element method of how to study the stiffness, strength and dynamic characteristics of the body structure. The main research work is as follows:Firstly, we built the simplified model of the body-in-white structure with the FEA software, which included the generation of finite element mesh, the definition of connection relations, the definition of material properties, etc.Secondly, based on the above model, we calculated the torsion stiffness and the bending stiffness of the body-in-white structure. Meanwhile, we also measured the same stiffness of the body structure by the test. And the comparison between the simulation and the test presents, the two results are of good consistency, which verifies the correctness of the finite element model.Thirdly, we calculated the stress distribution of body-in-white structure under some typical working condition. In order to get a more accurate analysis of the roof, we carried out a local stress analysis with the consideration of the contact between relevant components and the nonlinearity of materials. The results show that the strength of the body-in-white structure satisfies the design requirements. At last, we carried out the analysis of the free modal of the body-in-white structure, and got the low-order modal and natural frequency, which shows that the natural frequency of the body structure get rid of the engine idling frequency and the resonance frequency, and the modal distribution is reasonable. The work presented by this paper is of valuable reference for the design and the optimization of body structure, which has important practical significance.
